According to Wikipedia, Abiquiú has a population of 181 people, based on the 2020 Census. Say what? That doesn’t sound correct; when I moved here in 2000 there must have already been many more, and since then I have witnessed a steady stream of new residents. Read More
A poem for all times, not just today.
I’d be lying if I said I was happy with the state of the world right now. I might truck in hyperbole, but never (I hope) in untruths. Read More

I know of three other vegans in the Greater Abiquiu Area. I bet there are many more people who are curious and would like to give it a try, if they had some guidance and inspiration. For example, my baking skills greatly improved after I learned about this fantastic egg substitute. Read More
I liked Windows 10, but it’s getting time to move on. I’ve been on Windows 11 for a few years now. I don’t remember when it came out, but I switched soon after. I like it as much or more as I liked Win 10. Read More

If you were a fan of Monk, then you might recognize that phrase as something he seemed to say on every show. Last week, someone gave me 63 computers. 52 desktops and 11 laptops. I am actually thrilled, as I like working on computers. UPDATE Working on these computers I need your help. I need standard desktop power cords, keyboards, mice, and monitors. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Bureau of Reclamation is set to evaluate the performance of El Vado Dam through a ‘first fill test’ over the coming months. In which I relate to the staging of "Cebollas" in Santa Fe.
A trip to the theater offers us a moment to pause in our own overwhelming lives. Sometimes, we just need that break from driving places and interacting with other people who might, a little too often, be just a little too much like ourselves for comfort. Read More
Things are going great in the stock market, and that’s wonderful. If you’re invested, enjoy it. The thing is, markets don’t go up in a straight line. They never have anyway. There are these events called “corrections” that occur regularly. A nice word for “your account is going down in value - rapidly”. Read More
A few weeks ago we switched from Starlink’s internet to T-Mobile's. We had Starlink for close to 2 years, I think. We never had any real problems with it, aside from it being down for twenty minutes one afternoon. Way better than Windstream, and quite a bit faster. Click To Read
Maybe you’ve attended one of concert violist John Graham’s performances at his spacious house up on a mesa in Abiquiú, or maybe you remember him from the Abiquiú Chamber Music Festival where he was featured for several seasons. Or maybe his music isn’t your cup of tea… Either way, here is another artist who chose the breath-taking scenery of northern New Mexico because it enhances his creativity and innovative skills. Online Christmas Tree Permit Sales Begin Next WeekThe Carson National Forest will begin selling Christmas tree permits online at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. Permits will be sold through Recreation.gov and will cost $5 to $15, depending on the size of tree sought. Trees, except bristlecone pines, up to 20 feet may be cut with a permit.
"We're excited to know that many families and individuals will be creating new memories and starting new traditions while choosing the tree that is just right for them this holiday season,” said Deputy Forest Supervisor Jack Lewis. Permit holders are reminded to thoroughly read the instructions on Recreation.gov and on their permit after purchase. Instructions include rules about locations, tree selection and cutting/digging. There are also tips for planning your trip, cutting and what to do once your tree is home. Fourth graders with an Every Kid Outdoors pass are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit and can apply by entering the pass or voucher number when purchasing a permit (note: a $2.50 reservation fee will be applied). Kids of all ages can download, color and decorate their tree with this Christmas tree ornament coloring page for a fun, handmade addition to their tree. Permits will also be available for in-person purchase at all ranger stations with the exception of the Supervisor’s Office and Jicarilla beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14. Visitors are reminded to check office hours and call ahead for availability before. Following her academic studies, she spent a good deal of time traveling in Europe refining her knowledge of art history, particularly that of the 17th century Flemish and Dutch painters. On returning to Michigan she met Lon Miller, the love of her life. Lon and Diana moved together to New Orleans where they were married on Valentine’s Day 1980. In New Orleans Diana explored another of her passions-baking. She enrolled in the New Orleans Apprentice Chefs program headed at that time by renowned chef, Paul Prudhomme, eventually becoming a pastry chef. Her innovative and delectable desserts and pastries could be found in several fine New Orleans restaurants in the 1980s. The end of that decade found Diana returning to the world of art. She joined the sales staff of Hanson Art Gallery on Royal Street in New Orleans, where she forged many decades-long friendships with her clients and colleagues. She remained at Hanson Gallery until August of 2005 when she fled the city in advance of Hurricane Katrina. Her refuge was Taos. And she stayed.
Taos and its art community fit Diana like a glove. After several years of assisting other gallery owners, Diana’s dream came true, and in 2011 she opened Copper Moon Gallery at 105 Kit Carson Road. The gallery was a brilliant success. Diana represented the works of hugely talented regional painters, sculptors, ceramicists, and jewelers. Her artists adored her, and she adored her artists. Her clients loved her, and she loved them. Her collectors repeatedly acquired artwork from her with fierce loyalty. In March of 2020, with a diabetes diagnosis and the Covid-19 pandemic occurring almost simultaneously, Diana made the difficult decision to retire and close Copper Moon Gallery. She relocated to Abiquiu later that year where she was a valued board member of the Abiquiu Studio Tour. She also served on the board of the Taos Gallery Association for several years. Diana leaves behind a loving family— her brother Kevin Dolan (Beverly) of Flushing, Mi., niece Natalie Zaller (John) of Atlanta, Ga., and nephew Trevor Dolan (Sarae) of Grand Ledge, Mi. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marian Dolan, and her husband Lon Miller. The following is one of Diana’s favorite quotes. “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” Pablo Picasso Diana’s life was a gift to all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held in Taos at a date yet to be determined. This week, Johnny recommends The Whisper Man, by Alex North: "Best really creepy thriller I have read in quite some time. Reminded me a bit of Silence of the Lambs, in how the detectives investigating a boy's disappearance must consult with a serial killer in prison from 20 years before. But the real thriller comes in when the young boy of the main character, Tom, starts hearing the whispers outside his window... if you're into this stuff, this is a great book to read.

Siesta
Siesta was orphaned in a mattress outside. Unfortunately, her leg had gotten stuck in a mattress spring and she was found hanging upside down like a bat, her tiny leg badly broken. After several weeks of casting the leg and two months of foster care with her brother Sueño, Siesta now runs around on all four legs like any other rambunctious kitten, and she’s fully healed. She still loves her naps on laps, but she equally loves to play wildly with her brother. We would love to see these two adopted together as one purring ball of precocious preciousness: Sueño needs another kitten to play with, and Siesta relies on her brother’s adventurous spirit for confidence. Both kittens are litterbox trained, respectful of other cats, and they adore dogs and people. Apply on our website to adopt!
