Things are going great in the stock market, and that’s wonderful. If you’re invested, enjoy it. The thing is, markets don’t go up in a straight line. They never have anyway. There are these events called “corrections” that occur regularly. A nice word for “your account is going down in value - rapidly”. Read More

A few weeks ago we switched from Starlink’s internet to T-Mobile's. We had Starlink for close to 2 years, I think. We never had any real problems with it, aside from it being down for twenty minutes one afternoon. Way better than Windstream, and quite a bit faster. Click To Read

Following her academic studies, she spent a good deal of time traveling in Europe refining her knowledge of art history, particularly that of the 17th century Flemish and Dutch painters. On returning to Michigan she met Lon Miller, the love of her life. Lon and Diana moved together to New Orleans where they were married on Valentine’s Day 1980. In New Orleans Diana explored another of her passions-baking. She enrolled in the New Orleans Apprentice Chefs program headed at that time by renowned chef, Paul Prudhomme, eventually becoming a pastry chef. Her innovative and delectable desserts and pastries could be found in several fine New Orleans restaurants in the 1980s. The end of that decade found Diana returning to the world of art. She joined the sales staff of Hanson Art Gallery on Royal Street in New Orleans, where she forged many decades-long friendships with her clients and colleagues. She remained at Hanson Gallery until August of 2005 when she fled the city in advance of Hurricane Katrina. Her refuge was Taos. And she stayed.
Taos and its art community fit Diana like a glove. After several years of assisting other gallery owners, Diana’s dream came true, and in 2011 she opened Copper Moon Gallery at 105 Kit Carson Road. The gallery was a brilliant success. Diana represented the works of hugely talented regional painters, sculptors, ceramicists, and jewelers. Her artists adored her, and she adored her artists. Her clients loved her, and she loved them. Her collectors repeatedly acquired artwork from her with fierce loyalty. In March of 2020, with a diabetes diagnosis and the Covid-19 pandemic occurring almost simultaneously, Diana made the difficult decision to retire and close Copper Moon Gallery. She relocated to Abiquiu later that year where she was a valued board member of the Abiquiu Studio Tour. She also served on the board of the Taos Gallery Association for several years. Diana leaves behind a loving family— her brother Kevin Dolan (Beverly) of Flushing, Mi., niece Natalie Zaller (John) of Atlanta, Ga., and nephew Trevor Dolan (Sarae) of Grand Ledge, Mi. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Marian Dolan, and her husband Lon Miller. The following is one of Diana’s favorite quotes. “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” Pablo Picasso Diana’s life was a gift to all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held in Taos at a date yet to be determined. “No neat borderline separates a purely perceptional image-if such there is- from one completed by memory…”-Rudolf Arnheim
Artspace111 is proud to present the latest exhibition About Time, featuring paintings by Jim Woodson. This work explores Memory images serve to identify, interpret, and supplement perception. These paintings draw inspiration from the high deserts of the southwest, mostly in Texas and New Mexico. These “outer” landscapes are modified by “inner ones”. The inner concerns are a dialogue with dreams, memories, thought fragments and streams of consciousness. By the contextual placement or overlay of inner and outer, Woodson conveys thoughts about the nature of imagination: to achieve a sense of the imagination’s movement (tempo) against a relatively unchanging environment (duration). Woodson is interested in calling attention to the act of painting, as well as to how one understands visual conventions by combining self-referential marks and forms with more traditional rendering. Woodson shows us these juxtapositions enliven the surface and create an ambiguous space that causes the viewer to question his/her notions about perceptual space. Woodson provides the viewer choices that lie between dualities like cultural and natural, perspectival and encompassed, near and far, representational and abstract, mythic time and geologic time, movement and stillness, order and chaos. Woodson believes landscapes to be understood as a “verb” rather than a “noun”.

Casa Urraca Press has created a place for locals in our area to recommend books to each other, and a place to find book suggestions with a personal touch.
This week, Leigh recommends All Fours, by Miranda July: "A quick, fun read, with a narrator as insufferable and engaging as Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. An interesting exploration of what it means to age as a woman today, both in society and within herself. I'll be sending this book to my friends as a gift these holidays."

Have a book to recommend? Send it to Zach at casaurracaltd@gmail.com – title, author, and the reason you suggest it.
The full Locals’ Picks list is available to view here on Bookshop.
A purchase from Casa Urraca's link helps support independent bookstores.
Abiquiu’s Casa Urraca Press earns a commission from every shopping trip that starts with the above Bookshop link—you can shop the entire Bookshop site in addition to the locals' picks. Plus, a percentage of every book (at least 10%) goes straight to independent bookstores. This is an opportunity to support small businesses with the same convenience as large online retailers.
