One reader - Ann C was sick and tired of getting spoofed or spam calls and reported it.
Following was her response from the Federal Trade Commission.   All Good advice.

From Ann Cunningham

Thank you for filing a report with the Federal Trade Commission and helping to fight fraud in your community.

The FTC does not resolve individual reports, but your report will be entered in the FTC's Consumer Sentinel database and will be available to federal, state, and local law enforcement across the country.

Your Next StepsIf you want to stop getting so many unwanted calls:
  • Hang up on robocalls. If you press any numbers, you might get even more calls.
  • Learn more about stopping unwanted calls, including how to block unwanted calls, deal with robocalls, avoid phone scams, and sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry at ftc.gov/calls.
If you think a scammer has your information, like your Social Security, credit card, or bank account number:
  • Go to IdentityTheft.gov for steps you can to take based on what kind of information was lost or exposed.
If you gave your username and password to a scammer:
  • Change your password right away. If you use the same password for other accounts or sites, change it there, too. Create a new password that is strong.
If someone calls and offers to "help" you recover money you have already lost:
  • Don't give them money or personal information. You are probably dealing with a fake refund scam.
Scam Advice:
  • If you're concerned a scammer has your personal information, like your Social Security, credit card, or bank account number, go to IdentityTheft.gov for steps you can take.
  • Learn more about impersonation scams at ftc.gov/impersonators. If someone says they are with the FTC, know that the FTC will never demand money, make threats, tell you to transfer money, or promise you a prize.
  • Learn more about different scams and how to recover from them at ftc.gov/scams.
General Advice:
  • You can find advice and learn more about bad business practices and scams at consumer.ftc.gov.
  • If you’re concerned that someone might misuse your information, like your Social Security, credit card, or bank account number, go to IdentityTheft.gov for specific steps you can take.
  • Learn more about impersonation scams at ftc.gov/impersonators. If someone says they are with the FTC, know that the FTC will never demand money, make threats, tell you to transfer money, or promise you a prize.

Thank you for posting this, Carol. The calls I have been getting for over a month have stopped. They were calls supposedly from local Abiquiu people's land lines, according to my caller id, trying to sell me Medicare supplimental insurance and asking for personal information. I would hang up and call the number on my caller id and would get a message that the number was disconnected or no longer in service. I just wanted to alert others in our area who might also be getting these calls.

Best to terminate land lines and switch to cellular only. We did that in 2022 after a total blackout with Windstream for phone service and internet. Who needs the agita! Since November of ‘22 we have never had a problem with our new satellite operation with no tax, no fees and no need to speak with anyone because there are no problems. Simple installation for Starlink! Give the devil his due and get on with your life! In addition ………… never a marketing call!!!!

Richard, I keep my land line as a back up. I have a cell phone but rarely use it. I would not link up with Starlink because I will not support anything that Elon Musk has his hands in!
