Abiquiu News is pleased to announce a showing of work by three local photographers.   The show is up now through the end of March in the upstairs gallery at Abiquiu Inn.

Support these local photographers and the Abiquiu News.  Abiquiu Inn is generously contributing a portion of the sales to the Abiquiu News.   Thank you.

I moved to northern NM in 2010 from Washington DC to fulfill a long time desire to return to this wonderful landscape I had enjoyed as a college student. So in 2010 I lived and volunteered at Ghost Ranch working a night shift.  This gave me the days to hike and explore always having a camera at the ready.  Now I hike a larger area but still with the camera.  This landscape never stops surprising with new vistas.

Once a year, I display my photos at El Rito studio tours which is fun and rewarding to get feedback from all.  I am not a technical photographer but seek to find new visas, small little touches and patterns in our surroundings that can be shared.

Greg Lewandowski

My name is Greg Lewandowski and I'm an amateur photographer living in a small village next to Abiquiu. My passion for photography goes back to the late 70’s when I travelled for years throughout Europe and the Mid-East with an instamatic. Then 15 years ago I decided to find out what an F stop was. That’s when this journey began. I purchased my first DSLR from a small camera shop in Santa Fe.

With my camera and Backpack I started hiking the mountains of Northern New Mexico. My passions were for the wilderness, my camera, and hiking uphill. I then bought a high quality photo printer to give my self the creative ability to print my own photos. Then about 6 years ago I had a second camera converted to Infrared. I find that Infrared to be a fascinating way to capture images. It captures light in a different manner, often giving images a surreal and other worldly quality.

As I continue on this path I hope you find something that causes you to stop and draws you in.

My interest in photography was sparked by my father at an early age when he invited me to help develop negatives and print pictures in a darkroom. Later, as a young adult, I travelled to India where I photographed the landscape in addition to a lot of street scenes. I did so with a very early East German 35mm film camera that I received from my father. In the 80s and 90s I continued to make photographs and had my photographs published in magazines.
In the early 2000s I started a career as a videographer, mostly doing corporate and wedding videos, but also documentaries and business profiles. Dissatisfied with the low-light performance of the prominent video cameras of the time, I switched to using digital single lens reflex cameras (DSLR), which worked very well in low light situations. That’s when I discovered that they could actually “see” at night, better than my own eyes.

As I was always fascinated with universe and the night sky, I started to experiment with shooting the stars.  Since then I have built up an extensive portfolio of night photography and continue to expand it.

Other photographic project include exploring the vastness of New Mexico’s grass and ranchlands, and historic features of Santa Fe.

I love these photographers work - the one of the night sky pictured blows me away.... I am so directionally dyslexic that using any kind of camera except an iPhone is just not possible - and having lived in Abiquiu and think of it as my other home place I am swept away by the beauty I get to see every single Friday. Thank you!
